@ Look at this spread! I was lucky enough to be invited to my friend’s house to celebrate Kerala’s Malayali harvest festival, Onam with a traditional feast, Onam Sadhya.
Consisting of 20 dishes the menu includes pickle, fresh and dried bananas, papadums, Kerala’s matta rice which is an indigenous grain known for its health benefits, sambar, rasam, dal with ghee, a lovely beet yogurt, payasam. A few highlights for me were the pachadi (pineapple in yogurt) learning how to properly eat drumstick (moringa), the inji puli which is a dark brown sweet-sour and spicy Keralite curry made of ginger, tamarind, green chillies and jaggery and the moru curry a seasoned buttermilk.
The feast is presented on a banana leaf with the food laid out left to right and each dish has a specific spot on the leaf.
We ate the traditional way using our hands. It was such a unique experience and a beautiful meal, filled with the company of good friends and new friends.
